Greetings from Baptist Health (formerly called “Brookwood Baptist Health”) in Birmingham, Alabama:
Baptist Health’s Graduate Medical Education program would like to invite you to attend one of our “Virtual Recruiting Sessions”, in which we will share information about our four residency programs – Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Diagnostic Radiology and Transitional Year.

You will be able to talk with the coordinators and residents from each program to gain knowledge about the programs and have your questions answered, and we will close with information about how to contact us for an opportunity to complete an audition rotation (if desired) with one of our programs, interview, and hopefully become part of our team.

As the Hudson Valley’s regional referral center (10 hospitals; 1,700 beds), WMC offers a 6+2 schedule, wide subspecialty exposure (including transplant/hearts), strong procedural training, and comprehensive didactics—just 40 minutes from NYC.

Residents also receive structured training in educational techniques (bedside & large-group teaching, feedback, curriculum design, simulation) and mentored scholarship that leads to regional/national presentations and publications.
Would you kindly share the registration link and flyers with your MS4s (and IM-interested MS3s)? For questions, our Program Director Animita Saha, MD is cc’d.
Austin Charnis (Austin.Charnis@WMCHealth.org) can help with logistics.

The Office of Clinical Research Training and Medical Education offers multiple opportunities for qualified students who seek experience in basic, translational, or clinical research.
The NIH Medical Research Scholars Program (MRSP) is a premier, year-long research training program which seeks to attract talented, research-oriented medical, dental, and veterinary students to the NIH intramural campus in Bethesda, Maryland, and its satellite campuses. Centered on a robust investigation experience through a basic, clinical, or translational research project with an experienced mentor that matches their professional interests, the NIH MRSP also provides students with a dedicated curriculum of academic activities featuring world-renowned clinician-scientists, networking opportunities, and professional development workshops. Over 600 alumni strong, the NIH MRSP has a proven history of helping launch the next generation of biomedical researchers into highly successful, impactful careers. The (Future) Doctor Is In | NIH Intramural Research Program offers a glimpse into how this career development program has benefited some of our recent students. SOM Administration
Do not rearrange or remove cables or cords from any of the equipment in the SOM. This disrupts the function of the equipment.
Students, please remember to be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you see doors that shouldn’t be left open, including the student lounge doors, please close them to help keep you, your classmates, and your belongings safe!
Counseling Services: Student and Employee Health provides student counseling services through dedicated and experienced licensed professional counselors. Counselors will help students develop and implement strategies to improve their mental health and psychological well–being and will make referrals for additional services when more intensive medical therapy is needed. These student counseling services will be provided to UMMC students free of charge, up to a total of 10 visits per semester. Counselors will be available Monday through Friday each week, and appointments can be made by emailing scs@umc.edu or calling (601) 815–4971.
Counselors will not provide medication management. Recognizing the necessity for continuity of care, a streamlined referral process has been created in partnership with the UMMC Center for Telehealth to initiate or continue medication management for those students who wish to receive these patient services from UMMC. Care may also be sought from a community provider of the student’s choice. UMMC’s telehealth psychiatric nurse practitioners have broad access for appointments, often available on the same day or within one business day. Students choosing to use UMMC’s telehealth services for patient care will be billed for the telehealth visit through normal patient billing processes.
Questions about the student counseling services being offered through SEH may be directed to Dr. Brian Williams (bwilliams30@umc.edu) or Dr. Joshua Mann (jmann4@umc.edu).
TELUS Student Assistance Program: Third party, off–campus resource. Licensed professional counselors are available to speak 24/7. If you choose to call, you will talk with a trained professional who will ask about your situation and connect you with an expert who can assist you. You will be referred to a local professional for up to 3 face–to–face sessions per problem at no cost when appropriate. Your personal information is kept confidential. To make an appointment with a provider, call (866) 219–1232. More information is available on the Student Affairs website.
Office of Student Success: They oversee the following support services: Student Success Series (S3), Academic Accommodations, Academic Success Kiosk, Excellent Teacher, University Tutoring Services, Writing Collaborative, Academic Tools and Resources, and Student Complaints. You can access the Office of Student Success here to request help with one of the services listed above.
Academic Counseling for the School of Medicine: If you need help with time management, study skills, stress management, testing strategies, STEP Prep, or you need someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with Dakota Bibbs (nbibbs@umc.edu), our Academic Counselor. You can schedule a meeting with him here. You can also reach him via call or text on his cell at (901) 288–8070 if and when you need anything.
Requesting Technical Support in the SOM: Email SOMsupport@umc.edu to open a ticket to resolve the issue immediately, and it is available for all users (lecturers, students, faculty) when needing IT assistance.
